The Ocelote Project

With the purchase of a jungle terrain 6 kilometers inland from the Ecuadorian Pacific coast we started a project for recovery, preservation and healing.

We divided the land and the project into 2 parts.

The first part will be dedicated to the protection of 30 hectares of jungle and of the Camarones-river that runs through. 
In this part of the land we will develop an area for healing-work with plants and shamanism based on native American traditions and cultures.

The second part of the project will be developed in the remaining 30 hectares of the land. It consists of creating an ecological community that develops environmentally sustainable and productive agroforestry systems and practices, based on permaculture and bio construction.

At the moment it is still possible to join this project not only as a volunteer, but as a community member. This would require an integration process and an economic investment in cash or with work.

-At present (November 2014) we have advanced in the construction of the main house, which is the seat of agroforestry project. The house is already in use with running water and an electricity generator. Still, it could use some work on the finishing and details (photo). 

Volunteers will be accommodated here.

-The construction of our tree nursery began in September guided by one of the community elder, Don Colon Vaca, with the help of his children and some volunteers who have been already here. 

-We're expecting to receive a few thousand seedlings of fruit, coffee and cacao ready for a Planting Campaign in January ...

-A system of drip watering needs to be built for the next dry season…



WE'LL NEED A LOT OF HELP! 

Tree-Nursery/Vivero

Volunteering in the agroforestry project:
We expect volunteers to work 4 hours a day by:
-helping at the tree nursery

-planting trees and plants

-helping at the construction sites (building with bamboo…)

-and by doing some social work at the community where the project is been developed. This social work at the local community will be handled by the volunteer directly with the community leaders.


The Volunteering has no cost but each participant should bring their own food that can be prepared at the kitchen of the house or to join the communal meals, sharing the costs. 

For the rest of the time, volunteers are totally free. There are hiking trails in the mountains, the river has wonderful places to swim, and the beach is 15 minutes by car...

More about the Medicine area of the project…

After more than 20 years of working in many places with local traditional Medicines (Ayahuasca, Tabaco, Awakolla -also known as San Pedro), we're creating this center as a space to continue working, learnig, developing proposals and investigating.

For the people who are starting with this kind of work, we're developing a program which includes 

-working with these Medicines in a ceremonial context

-medicine-walk

-body techniques as breathing and others

-Sweat lodges (temazcal)

For people who are familiar with this work and have more experience, there is a program running every summer and winter for 25 days of intensive work.

Proyecto Ocelote

Con la adquisición de un terreno selvático a 6 kilómetros de la costa pacífica ecuatoriana, hemos iniciando un proyecto de  recuperacion  preservacion y sanción.

El proyecto y el terreno se divide en 2 partes.

La primera consiste en la protección de 30 hectáreas de selva y del rio Camarones que las recorre,  área donde  se desarrollarán trabajos de sanación con plantas medicinales y chamanismo, basado en las tradiciones indígenas americanas y de otras culturas.

La segunda parte del proyecto que se desarrollará en las restantes 30 hectáreas del terreno consiste en crear una comunidad ecológica que desarrolle prácticas agroforestales ambientalmente sustentables y productivas basadas en sistemas como permacultura y bio construcción.

De momento es posible unirse al proyecto no sólo como voluntario o voluntaria sino como miembro de la comunidad. Esto requeriría un proceso de integración y una inversión económica, ya sea en dinero o como trabajo.

-Al presente (Noviembre 2014) hemos avanzado en la construccion de la casa principal, sede del proyecto agroforestal. Esta ya en uso, con agua corriente y un generador, mas todavia falta mucho trabajo en acabados y detalles (foto)
Aqui se alojan los voluntarios.

-El Vivero se comenzo a instalar desde septiembre, y esta a cargo de un anciano de la comunidad, Don Colon Vaca con ayuda de sus hijos y algunos voluntarios que han pasadoya  por alli.

-Esperamos tener listos  algunos miles de plantas de frutales, cafe y tabaco para una Campaña de Siembra que empieza en Enero...

¡¡Vamos a necesitar mucha ayuda!!




Voluntariado en el proyecto agroforestal:

El trabajo a realizar es de 4 horas diarias, y se distribuye principalmente en:

-ayudar en el vivero

-sembrar árboles y plantas

-ayudar en la construcción de la casa en guadua (bambú)

-y realizar una parte de trabajo social con la comunidad cercana a donde se desarrolla el proyecto. Este aporte social a la comunidad deberá ser tratada direcctamente con los líderes de esta.

El voluntariado no tiene costo pero cada participante deberá traer sus propios alimentos que  podrán preparar en la cocina de la casa o participar en las comidas comunes, compartiendo los gastos con los otros voluntarios. 

Por el resto del tiempo, el voluntario es totalmente libre de elegir, hay senderos para  caminatas por la montaña,  el rio donde hay maravillosos lugares para nadar, y el mar está a 15 minutos en vehiculo...

Más sobre el área de Medicina del Proyecto

Ya con más de 20 años de trabajo en muchos lugares con medicinas tradicionales locales (Ayahuasca, Tabaco, Awakolla), estamos creando este centro como espacio para continuar trabajando, aprendiendo, desarrollando propuestas e investigando.

Para quienes están empezando con este tipo de trabajo, estamos desarrollando un programa que incluye:

- Ceremonias de sanción con medicina.

- Caminatas de medicina.

- Tecnicas corporales como de respiración entre otros.

-Temazcales (baños de vapor medicinales).

Para los que ya están familiarizados con este trabajo y tienen más experiencia, hay un programa de trabajo intensivo que corre cada verano y invierno durante 25 días.

Es posible combinar el trabajo en ambas áreas.
